Stats Bar for jcurtis55Listen to our interview with jcurtis55 of Plainfield, Indiana (southwest suburb of Indianapolis). He uses the Garmin eTrex Vista Cx and Garmin eTrex H GPSRs and a Palm TX with Cachemate all loaded through GSAK. His favorite locations he's cached so far were Astoria OR, Olympia WA, and Washington D.C. He dreams of caching in Europe, especially Germany and United Kingdom. His favorite location to hide caches has been the Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis IN. As for movies, he enjoys the "Lord of the Rings," "Star Trek," and "Star Wars" series. On television he watches "Big Bang Theory," "Hill Street Blues," "NYPD Blue," and "White Collar" As for music, his favorite artists include The Beatles, The Kinks, Neil Young, The Who.

Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener Seyah Later:
"When you find a new cacher on Geocaching.com be sure to write a quick note and encourage them along. Most cachers will not get to experience an event or the opportunity to meet other cachers right away. A quick note will stand out and do wonders in keeping them interested until the 'addiction' takes hold. Encourage them along just as you would if you were meeting them in person. So whether a new cacher finds one of your caches or you see them on the log of another cache, take the time to send a quick 'welcome aboard.'"

Stats Bar for SeeKPeeKRsListen to our interview with SeeKPeeKRs of Calvert County, Maryland. Their first GPSR was the Garmin eTrex Legend but they're currently using the Garmin GPSMAP 60Cx. For paperless caching they use the notes function on their iPod loaded through MacCaching. They're playing with the Geocaching iPhone App. Their favorite location to cache has been their home state of Maryland. Her favorite books are the "Dragonriders of Pern" series. While for movies she likes "Tremors," "Buckaroo Banzai," "Star Trek," and "Star Wars." Favorite television series include "Amazing Race," "Big Bang Theory," "Firefly," and "Survivor." Favorite Musical Groups are "Carbon Leaf," "Genesis," "Rush," and "The Who."

Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener WRWhizard:
"When you find a well worn 'GeoTrail' leading to the cache, it might be a good idea to drag some dead fall over to block it so it will grow back natural and help restore the difficulty of the original hide. In general, you should cover your tracks and leave no trace you were there. Conversely, I use the tracking skills I've begun to acquire, to follow the hider to his newly placed cache. I check logs to see how recently a cache has been found, and adjust for how old the traces should be when carefully approaching the cache area so as not to trample any clues."

Stats Bar for DudleyGruntListen to our interview with DudleyGrunt of Central Maryland. He started with the Garmin eTrex Legend and now uses the Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx. He's looking at either the DeLorme PN-40 or Garmin Oregon. To load his 60CSx he uses GSAK. His favorite location he's cache has been South Carolina and be dreams of caching the entire United States of America. He favorite hide is "Only a Lad" (GC1369P). He's also involved in the Military Association of GeoCachers and GeoCachers 4 Christ. Favorite movies invoice the "Monty Python," "Star Trek," and "Star Wars" series. As for television shows, he likes "Flash Forward" and "Mythbusters." His taste for music includes Johnny Cash and Led Zeppelin.

Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener rosebud55112:
"If you live in a part of the world that has a significant change of climate with the changing seasons, you may want to check what time of year a cache you are searching for was hidden. Hiders tend to use camouflage appropriate to the season they hide the cache, so a cache hidden in the spring may be easier to find in the fall, when its camo is gone or out-of-place."

He has since switched to the Blackstar and CacheBerry apps. So far his favorite location has been caching around his hometown of Augusta, Georgia to find places he hadn't known. Favorite movies include the "James Bond," "Lord of the Rings," "Star Trek," "Star Wars" series, and the movies by "Tom Clancy." Favorite television shows are "Lost" and "NCIS."

Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener Superted:
"When you have failed to find a puzzle cache and are just about to give up and walk away assuming that your answer is wrong or the cache has been muggled, check that you have entered the coordinates correctly into your GPS. You may be pleasantly surprised to find you have not and the cache is waiting for you just around the corner. His favorite unit is still the Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx. To load the units, he uses GSAK. His favorite location for caching is Louisville, Kentucky. He dreams of caching in Germany some day. Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener mojave_rattler:
"I have found a few caches in the past were the cache was hidden under what looks like a real berral cactus. On some cache hunts I do what I call the cactus kick to check the local cactuses if they are real ones or not. Now I don't give the cactus a full blown kick but a nudge."

Stats Bar for vertigo84mListen to our interview with vertigo84m of Houston, Texas. His favorite GPSR was actually the one with which he started -- the Magellan 2000XL. Since then he's used the Garmin eTrex Vista, Garmin eTrex Legend, and now the Garmin Oregon 200. His favorite caches are "Oh Bother!" (GC294D) and "Geo Fast food" (GC1BN2N). He enjoys listening to Jimmy Buffet and watching "The Great Escape" and "Wizard of Speed and Time."

Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener bripod:
"When rolling up logs for nanocaches lay a piece of string (approx 3") across the log and roll it up halfway, then fold one side of the string over to match up with the other side of the string and continue rolling until you're done. Place the log into the nano with the string sticking out and tuck the string under the cap. This will provide a 'handle' for future cachers to easily remove the log. I frequently use waxed dental floss for this."

Stats Bar for river dwellersListen to our interview with river dwellers of the banks of the Pend Oreille River about 60 miles north of Spokane, Washington. They started caching with the Garmin Rino 120 but upgraded to the Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx for the improved reception. To load both units he uses MacCaching. His favorite location to date was Hawaii and dreams of hitting Australia. His favorite hide was Ruby Ferry (GCYM9B). One of his more memorable hunts was for Camels Prairie Stash (GC25) during an event. For other entertainment he likes the Lord of the Rings movies, 24 on television, and listening to Michael Bublé.

Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener wademercer:
"When you come across a cache that is damaged or in need of repair, add a maintenance log to alert the owner. I have found that most owners will send an email back, and usually will give a time frame as to when they can make the repair. If they have moved or are far away (and you are close to the cache) you might offer to replace the cache container for them. This will get the cache up and running again for other cachers, and also earn you brownie points!"

Stats Bar for GeldhartListen to our interview with Geldhart of Regina, Saskatchewan. This Cacher got his start using Trimble's Geocache Navigator on his Blackberry. Since then he has switched to the eTrex Legend HCx for the GPS, Cacheberry on the Blackberry, and GSAK to load both. His favorite hides are From Edmonton with Love (GC1VX7A) and lrae (GC1VX7R) which require cachers in two cities to work together to claim each of the caches. His musical taste includes the Arrogant Worms, Slim Dusty, and Weird Al. On television he enjoys watching the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Mythbusters.

Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener TeamZebra:
"Always remember when you are putting trackables or swag items in caches that kids are often the first to open the container. I've found some items in local caches that I shudder to think of in the hands of a young child. Items such as pocket knives, box cutters and lighters are never good ideas for trade items or TB hitchhikers. Before you place something in a cache, ask yourself if you'd feel safe letting your kids (or someone else's kids) play with it or hold it."

He uses GSAK to load them, but has worked paperless through CacheMate (first on Palm, then on Windows Mobile), followed by GCz, and now BlackStar on the Blackberry. His favorite location has been the Virgin Falls State Natural Area, but he looks forward to caching in Alaska, Australia, Oregon, and Washington. Stats Bar for WitzEndListen to our interview with WitzEnd of Tacoma Washington. He and The Bad Cop (interviewed on CAM136 started caching together about five years ago. As for WitzEnd's favorite locations he's cached to date, that would be Hawaii and Japan. Eventually he would like to cache in Antarctica. His favorite hide was the Digital Communication (GCMC4D) which used a container he received as a gift. On television he enjoys Chuck, Dirty Jobs, and MythBusters. As for movies, Galaxy Quest, Star Trek, and Star Wars are notable favorites.

Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener pumpkinking27:
"If you are getting ready to hide some caches, don't forget that some places will be experiencing a big season change. Your typical camo might not be good for the fall and winter. Hiding a cache now in a place that will look different in a few weeks, or months will require some additional thinking when it comes to the camo. Where a white container would stick out like a sore thumb in the summer, might be a worthwhile container to use in the winter."Thanks to Cache Advance for their donated gift package (Cache Advance Hat, Carabiner Small Pen, & White Geocaching.com Lanyard).

Stats Bar for StinkyMillersListen to our interview with StinkyMillers of Lincoln Nebraska. On his brother's recommendation, he purchased the GPSMAP 60Cx to start caching and still uses that today. The favorite location he's been caching so far was Australia. He would like to cache the remaining five continents he has not yet found a cache (Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Europe, and South America) to have cached on all seven. He enjoys "Lost" on television, older movies by Steven Spielberg like "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "Jaws." As for his music tastes, he enjoys AC/DC and U2.

Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener dcarbone:
"Quite often cache titles are a play on words that describe the location or what the container may look like. When reading the cache title, take the time to read between the lines as there may be more to the cache title then you think."

Stats Bar for Influence Waterfowl CallsListen to our interview with Influence Waterfowl Calls of Mayfield, Kentucky. He started his caching adventures with a eTrex Camo, but has since upgraded to the GPSMAP 60CSx. He also uses the nüvi 200 and loads them through GSAK. He uses CacheMate and a Tungsten E2 for paperless. His favorite location to cache to date has been the St. Louis, Missouri where he found the "RT66:IL-MO - Above the Trees & Mississippi Cache" (GC2258). He'd like to cache just about anywhere there are caches to be found, but the Seattle, Washington area, Antarctica, and Brazil are stand-outs. He favorite hide was the now archived "Behind The Castle Gate!" (GC14Y4J) unknown cache. Some movies he enjoyed were "Shooter," "Fast & Furious," "Find Me," and "GPS the Movie." He's also been watching "America's Got Talent" on television lately.

Also mentioned in this episode is CacheBerry, CacheMate, Caching, Geocaching iPhone App, Geosphere, , and iGeocacher.

Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener DaveJustTyped:
"When paperless caching with an iPhone or an iTouch, sometimes there is no wireless signal in the bush. By pressing the power button along with the menu button, you can take a screen shot which is then saved to your photo section. Stats Bar for Hamilton FamilyListen to our interview with Hamilton Family of Durham, New Hampshire. Dave and family began caching in 2003 with the eTrex Legend, which they had problems finding caches while in the woods. Earlier this year they attempting finding a cache with the iPhone and found they were actually able to locate those caches in the woods. Shortly after they bought the Geocaching iPhone App and love the convenience of caching without all the prep. They still use that old eTrex for the kids though, loaded through MacCaching. Their favorite cache so far was found in Naples, Florida. At a loss for ideas of dream locations, Darryl and Drie suggested New Zealand and Australia, and the upcoming Oz Mega Wagga Wagga Mega-Event. Dave and his friend John host the "Mac Geek Gab Podcast." The family enjoys attending concerts and this year the kids enjoyed their first Phish concert. A movie they recently enjoyed was "Instinct." He and his podcasting partner used to enjoy "Mystery Science Theater 3000." on TV during their earlier years.

Also mentioned in this episode is the Midwest Meetup (GC1YRRG) and the Cache-A-Maniacs Geocoins.

Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener dougswass:
"I am from north of Toronto Canada, and have a tip for 'northern' n00bs. I started in early April, and was able to find a number of caches that would have been much harder in summer time, caches in trees and bushes are a lot easier before all of the trees are in bloom, and the wild grass grows up around them. I was able to find them at a much faster rate because of the easier terrain rating of spring time. In Canada (and probably the northern states too) you can probably reduce the terrain rating by .5 or 1 in spring and fall. Finding a number of caches that seasoned geocachers had DNF'd fueled my now unsatisfiable obsession. I attribute some of the finds to the lowered terrain rating. (Another bonus is mosquitoes etc are not a nuisance in the spring, making it more enjoyable). So my tip to folks thinking of starting geocaching, starting in the spring or fall in the northern half of the continent makes the introduction more rewarding."

Stats Bar for AshallondListen to our interview with Ashallond of Ft. Smith, Arkansa. Though he knew of Geocaching first, he didn't begin caching till he bought an iPhone 3G and downloaded the iPhone Geocaching App. To round out the phone as a geocaching device he also added MotionX-GPS and iGCT Geocachers ToolKit. His favorite find so far was "Making the Connection" (GCHNF5). He dreams of caching in the Northwestern United States, Western Canada, Ireland, and Scotland. He was surprised to find that his "9-9-9: The Cache!" (GC1YBXW) cache which was posted to commemorate 9-9-9 was found 9 times on the 9th. In his little free time he enjoys playing "The Kingdom of Loathing." As for movies, "Harry Potter" and "The Lord of the Rings" are favorite series. A favorite TV show was "Battlestar Galactica."

Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener Clubmud1:
"When looking for a difficult cache in the woods and you run out of ideas where it could be, look for a branch or log that is slightly out of place, such as barkless, log from a different type tree or a sawed log, where others aren't. Stats Bar for auburnfan99Listen to our interview with auburnfan99 of Birmingham, Alabama. He got his start through a gift and the experience of his co-worker pallet2005. That gift was the Garmin Nüvi 200 but he has added a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx. He loads the GPSRs through GSAK and uses the Geocaching iPhone App for his paperless caching. As for his favorite cache, that's "VIEW CARRE '" (GCE02C), a well know hide in New Orleans. Given the opportunity, he really wants to find the "International Space Station Travel Bug" (TB27AH8) placed on the International Space Station by LordBritish. The only event he's attended was the "Pilot Knob CheeseBurger" (GC1RXR9), part of the "Summit Cheeseburger Quest." Favorite movies include "The Shawshank Redemption," "The Godfather," and the "Star Wars" series. On television he enjoys "CSI" and "Law & Order."

Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener Crew of Misfits:
"When performing a multi-cache in which you are discovering the written coordinates to the next stage, don't just write the coordinates down. Take a digital picture of the coordinates in the event you may need to validate what you wrote down or loaded into your GPSr. With a little zooming in on your camera's LCD display, you're back in business without having to double back to the previous stage."

Stats Bar for kkooll2Listen to our interview with kkooll2 of North West Indiana. This geocacher does not own or use a GPSR but rather Google Maps (which he prints) and other paper-based means to find the containers. He's a volunteer instructor with Livefree. As for his musical tastes, his favorite performers are no longer recording, including the Beatles

Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener chico_valdez:
"Often when we are out in the woods searching for a cache, we seem to get pitch or sap on our hands after we've touched a tree trunk or branch. Inevitably the sap gets on everything including our GPSR, clothes, or PDA and its really annoying. Trying to wash it off your hands with water just doesn't work. In our caching bag, we carry a small bottle of alcohol based hand sanitizer (like Purell) and we've found it dissolves pitch instantly. He turned the camera and microphones on us for an interview of the Cache-A-Maniacs hosts for his Geosnippets show and you can watch part 1 and part 2 on his YouTube channel. He told us that his favorite GPSR is the Garmin 60CSx but that he also uses a Garmin eTrex Vista and started caching with his Garmin Nüvi 200. His favorite locations he's been caching are Michigan and North Carolina. He'd like to cache Japan, New Zealand, and the Scottish islands. His favorite hide is "Ghosts Of The Woods" (GC1PYGJ) which was inspired by the movie "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves." As for the vest of his visual entertainment, he enjoys the "Star Trek" and "Star Wars" series.

Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener dan_n_stef:

Stats Bar for madkiwimanListen to our interview with madkiwiman of Matthews, North Carolina. His geocaching name was inspired by the Mad Max movie. He learned of Geocaching from the Abomination novel by Colleen Coble. He started with the Garmin eTrex Legend. Now he's using the iPhone 3G with the Groundspeak Geocaching App. So far his favorite cache was TUBE TORCHER II (GCWA47). He's really looking forward to caching New Zealand when he returns for his next visit. On television, he used to watch the Father Ted series.

Also mentioned in this episode is the Geocaching 12 of 12.

Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener Influence Waterfowl:
"For various reasons a cache may need to be moved. I have had to do this when the grounds crew cut back the growth that hid you from the muggles on a near by trail. When faced with moving your cache leave a forwarding address when possible. Just write the coordinates to the new location on a slip of paper and put it into a zip lock bag. Place the bag where the cache was originally hidden, such as under the usual pile of sticks. Then if a cacher with the old coordinates comes to find the cache they will not be hit with a DNF. They can follow the forwarding address to the new location. They will thank you just like they did me! Remember to retrieve the bag after you think that there will be no more cachers with the old coords seeking the cache. That way it will not just become geotrash!"

He placed his favorite series of hides in the Bangor City Forest, each with its own story. Outside of caching he's also involved in the Bangor Ghost Hunters. On television he enjoys shows like "America's Funniest Videos." As for movies he likes "The Cannonball Run" and "Smokey and the Bandit." Some musical artists he listens to are Bon Jovi, Frank Sinatra, and Kiss.

Also mentioned in this episode are the Geocoinfest SLC 2009 Mega-Event (GC1JZ1X), and the first Geocaching 12 of 12 event to take place on September 12th.

Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener The Watt's:
"Tired of trying to get logs out of micros without destroying them? Why not add a toothpick to the mix? Simply glue/affix a piece of toothpick to the top of a log. Make sure it is longer than the log and then roll it up. That way you have something to grab on to when trying to remove it."

Stats Bar for bripodListen to our interview with bripod of Athens, Georgia. His first GPSR was a Garmin eTrex. He's now using a Garmin Colorado 300 supplemented by the Geocaching and Geosphere iPhone apps. Stone Mountain, Georgia has been his favorite location to Geocache but would like to cache Australia and Germany. His favorites hides are Peek-A-Boo (We see you...)" (GC1E0JN) and "Headless Chicken" (GC1FA6G). Music favorites include Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and The Who. On television he follows the "Heroes" series. Favorite movies include "Excalibur" and "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory."

Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener L&N Railroad:
"Don't note cache problems in 'Found It' or 'Didn't Find It' logs. When a cache has a problem contact the owner directly, or use the 'Needs Maintenance' or 'Needs Archived' options to log the issue instead of noting the issue in a 'Found It' or 'Didn't Find It' log. Some cache hiders don't read found or DNF logs, and some cache owners are no longer active. It's not unusual to visit a cache with long string of Found It logs containing the message 'soggy log,' for example. If the cache needs work then post an additional Needs Maintenance log for this. If a cache has a serious problem then check to see if the owner is no longer active. If the owner's profile says that it has been years since they've visited Geocaching they're not active and the cache warrants a 'Needs Archived' log instead of 'Needs Maintenance.' In some cases active cachers don't maintain their hides so a string of ignored problems may warrant a 'Needs Archived' log after close examination. Finally, if a cache has serious ignored problems (especially safety issues) you should contact Geocaching directly."

Stats Bar for TheBadCopListen to our interview with TheBadCop of Tacoma, Washington. He's know as TheBadCop on Twitter where he collects responses for the "Geocaching Question of the Day." He's currently using an Garmin Oregon 200 but started with a Garmin eTrex Legend. He want control over his GPX files so he runs all his Pocket Queries through GSAK before loading the GPSRs. His favorite location was found during his recent milestone at the "Mission 9: Tunnel of Light" (GC1169) Project APE cache. He would like to revisit France to go caching. His favorite hide was the now archived "My Chores: My Shopping List" (GCNCN3) unknown cache. For entertainment he likes "Star Trek" and "Star Wars." He also like watching football on television. We also had the pleasure of caching with The Bad Cop and xpunkx on July eleventh.

Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener sparrows_gold:
"When going on a 'FTF' hunt, if you're the lucky one to find the blank log - don't rush to log it in right away! By waiting a few hours or the next day, this keeps more people going for the hunt and the cache owner will get more hits to his cache! There is nothing worse than publishing a new cache and only one person finds it for the next week!"

Stats Bar for MillerDudeListen to our interview with MillerDude of Las Vegas, NV. We interviewed his brother (condor1) on show 130 while another brother (the real thing) will be on episode 135. He started caching with a Garmin Nüvi 200w and still uses that for vehicle navigation. His primary Geocaching unit is now the Garmin Colorado 400t. He uses GSAK to load the cache info into his Nüvi. On television he watches "Hereos" and "Prison Break."

Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener Networkcacher:
"For rapid cache repairs and updates I keep a variety of ready-to-place geocaches (micro, regular, ammo can) in my trunk. This way if I need a replacement log, stash sheet or all new swag I can grab it out of the ready cache. It also helps if I find that perfect spot calling out for a cache, I've got one all ready."

Also mentioned in this episode was the "The alpha of the Geocachers of The Alpha and Omega" (GC1V3GB) event called in by a Listener.

He uses his Garmin Oregon 300 and Garmin Nüvi 650 for his caching. He start though without a GPSR completing two caches before buying his first GPSR -- the Garmin eTrex. For field notes though, he's using the TextMarks option finding it more convient than the field notes within the Oregon. He has more than one location he considers to be favorites; Colorado (notably the Garden of the Gods) and Iraq. His two favorite hides are the "100 Possibilities" (GC12RJT) and "Patriotic Rock" (GCQEVF) caches. On the motion picture front, he enjoys the "Saw" series and movies by Adam Sandler. On television he watches "Family Guy," "South Park," and "NASCAR." His musical tastes include "Linkin Park," and "Rush," and the "Trans-Siberian Orchestra."

Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener ZeppoCruz:

Stats Bar for step2626Listen to our interview with step2626 of Oregon. This Geocacher has been through multiple GPSRs through his roughly six years in the activity. While currently using the Garmin Colorado 400t, he started with the Magellan 315 then moved to the Magellan Meridan Platinum. He dreams of caching in both Australia and New Zealand some day. His "Ten Star Turtle" GCPKAV and "Perfect Spot for a Traditional Cache" GC1Q9BB are his favorite hides. On television he enjoys watching the "House" series. At the movies he's a fan of the "Indiana Jones" and "The Lord of the Rings" series.

Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener gelfling6:
"With summer, comes the need to keep hydrated. Now, Everyone will tell you drink plenty of water. But, water alone, and too much, can be just as bad. Most sports drinks provide electrolytes, but are mostly sugar, or other carbohydrate content. Energy drinks are sports drinks, with some form of stimulant, usually caffeine, which may provide quick energy, but for only short period. Caffeine is also a diuretic, which will cause the body to expel water, and too much, can cause dehydration. A good tip, would be a 50/50 mixture of a sports drink, with plain water. This way, the body gets the electrolytes, while the water is still absorbed, and not as bound to the carbohydrates (Sugars)."

Stats Bar for WVAnglerListen to our interview with WVAngler of West Virginia. He started caching with a Magellan 310. He's caching now with the DeLorme PN-20 and TomTom One. He's looking forward to trying the Garmin Oregon 550. He uses the iPod Nano with cache information loaded through GSAK to suppliment the paperless info in the field. He ran into a bobcat attempting a 5/5 cache in the Pinnacle Rock State Park. His favorite caching location so far has been Colorado. He'd like to try caching in the Sierra Nevada region of California, in the Patagonia region, New Zealand, and Seattle. His favorite hides have been based on the "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" movie, and The West Virginia County Challenge (GC1QWJF). As for his taste in movies, "Monty Python," "A Mighty Wind," "Napolean Dynamite," and "This is Spinal Tap"

Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener zbq:

Stats Bar for condor1Listen to our interview with condor1 of Colorado Springs. He's using a combination of the Garmin eTrex and the Magellan Roadmate to get him to the caches. His favorite location to cache was the Colorado Paint Mines but he dreams of caching Mount Diablo in California. His favorite hide was one he worked on with his sister (kayebear40s) with some create code on its home page. That cache -- Big Springs 1st Mystery Cache (GC1MFQ0) -- receives many good comments from its finders. As for music, he enjoys Kiss and ZZ Top. As for television, his favorite series was Star Trek: The Original Series.

Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener NevadaWolf:
"Talk to new cachers; at events, on the trail, or through email. Remember how confusing things were for you in the beginning and offer to help, go caching together, or simply to sit down and chat. Stats Bar for UnpluggedRadioListen to our interview with UnpluggedRadio of Lake Orion, Michigan. The caching couple started with the iPhone 3G and Groundspeak's Geocaching App but has since added the Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx which they load through the Geocaching website and the Garmin Comminicator Plugin. They're favorite place they've cached so far has been the Seven Lakes State Park. They would like to cache Europe and Hawaii. On television they like "30 Rock" and "The Office." Music favorites include "Radiohead" and "Zero 7." Movie picks include "Fight Club" and "Rushmore."

Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener GeoJunkie:
"Don't look at a DNF as a bad thing. It's frustrating to not find what you're looking for, but it's not a sign of weakness or bad caching. There could be many factors, including a missing cache, muggle overload, or just temporary geo-blindness. She started caching with a Garmin eTrex, moved to the Garmin eTrex Legend, then a Magellan eXplorist 400, but now uses a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx. Stats Bar for Flag_Mtn_HkrsListen to our interview with Flag_Mtn_Hkrs of Flagstaff Arizona. You might recognize the name from his Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" we read on episode 125. His name was derived from the "Arizona's 20-20 Challenge" website. He's currently caching with a Garmin eTrex Vista HCx but started with the Garmin Vista. He uses a Palm i705 purchased used off eBay with Cachemate for his paperless caching. He loads both the GPS and the Palm through GSAK. He recalls his doubt about caching as looking for his first geocache -- "Rock 'n Root" (GCJTTB). His favorite location to cache has been the Verde River but he hopes to cache the Grand Canyon to find the "Anasazi Ruins" (GC83C6) virtual cache. He had an interesting story about his trip to the "A.J.A.C.S. 5th Annual Campout Event" (GC1KX3J) and always enjoy the A.J.A.C.S. events. For entertainment, favorite movies include "Blade Runner," "Indiana Jones" series, and "Star Wars" series. On television they used to watch "Dirty Jobs" and "Mythbusters" before dropping cable.

Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener bookboy*:
"Instead of a pair of tweezers for removing micro cache logbooks, invest in a pair of needle nose pliers. They are a good size for removing logbooks, but they can be used for many other things that tweezers cannot."

Stats Bar for rklmblListen to our interview with rklmbl of Northwest Arkansas. This caching couple first purchased a Garmin GPSMap 60CS on the recommendation from a caching friend, but since upgraded to a Garmin GPSMap 60CSx. They use GSAK to load their GPSR and a Palm Tungsten E2 with Cachemate for paperless caching in the field. Their most memorable early caching experience was on the "Round Mountain" (GC3D14) cache when they underestimated the time needed to complete the find. They love caching in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area for the creative and varied hides. They would love to caching in the state of California someday. One of their favorite hides is the "Hillbilly Skirt Lifter" (GC1AZXF), but their "The Very First Arkansas Coffee and Nuts Event" (GC1KXQ5) provided their most memorable event stories. On television, they enjoy watching "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Cheers."
We also heard from TKBeers (from CAM076) about his 600th Find.

Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener WVangler:
"Spice up the caching in your area by creating unique containers or themes. Use concepts familiar to you. For example, create replica props from your favorite movie using items from craft stores or items relative to other hobbies you have outside of geocaching. If they aren't waterproof, just design them as a part of a multicache. That way the cache hunt is not only more entertaining but cachers will remember you for your hides and learn more about your interests."

Favorite locations he's been caching include Del Mar, California and Yellowstone National Park but would like to cache all 50 U.S. states. As for his favorite hide, the "Centennial Trail Multi" (GC1999K) 4-stage multi-cache hidden on the Will Rogers Country Centennial Trail provides interesting logs from its Finders. Our "Tip for the Seasoned Cacher" comes from Listener Flag_Mtn_Hkrs:

Stats Bar for Happy HumphreyListen to our interview with Happy Humphrey of Isle of Man. His screen name comes from a professional wrestler William J. Cobb. His motivation for Geocaching came from a walk on the Southern Upland Way in Southern Scotland. For that hike he picked up the Forerunner 201. Since then he's upgraded to the for his caching. He prefers to load the caches as POIs (Point Of Interest) rather than waypoints using a macro for GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife). He once flew to the Lake District in North West England just to be the first to find an elaborate multi-cache. Another notable multi-cache adventure took place in the Black Forest of Germany where he was not able to find the final cache. The closest that he came to a signature item was to produce the Isle of Man Geocoin. His favorite caching location was the Black Forest, but given the chance he would like to return to California. The favorite caches hides are "The Money Pit"e (GCX21B) and the "Three Legs" series. The most memorable caching event was "The UK's First Mega Event" (GC17W59) where he ran into many of the Cachers he recognized from logs. For his viewing, he watchings the "Father Ted" series on television, and "Monty Python's Life of Brian." He's also a Genesis listener.

Stats Bar for kf4ooxListen to our interview with kf4oox of Northwest Pennsylvania. His name is him Amateur radio call sign as assigned by the FCC. He started caching with his Garmin GPS III Plus but quickly upgraded to the GPS V. He has upgraded to the DeLorme Earthmate PN-40 and is currently using the beta software which allows for Geocaching on the unit. His favorite location for caching had been around last year's "Midwest GeoBash 2008" (GC154HT) largely for the proximity to other Cachers. He would like to cache in Alaska and Hawaii, and not just for the caches. Each of the four caches he current owns -- "Short Walk in State Game Lands #204" (GC1MQF1), "Canoe Launch in Sharon?" (GC1EQ5N), "Sharon View II" (GC18BFE), and "Sharon West Hill" (GC182F5), -- are favorites. His most memorable Geomuggle story was an encounter with a crowbar weilding muggle at "Shady Tree Cove" (GC174PB). Aside from the Geocaching and Amateur radio, Paul enjoys model railroading, railfanning, and is volunteer firefighter. As for television viewing he leans toward the Discovery Channel, Science Channel, and National Geographic Channel. Some favorite shows include Dog Whisperer and COPS. He's been into Country Music as of late with favorites including Kenny Roger, Charlie Daniels, and SHeDAISY.

He used GSAK to load both the GPS and the Palm (which runs Cachemate). A couple favorite location he caches are Ocala National Forest, the Space Coast, and Tampa Bay. His caching dreams take him to Europe, Australia, the Far East, and Hawaii. His favorite hide is his "Jambalaya" cache (GC107BV) for it mix of cache types. One of his memorable experiences came while working at Disney World and spotting a fellow Geocacher waiting to have his photo taken with a travel bug and a character. His movie picks include "Animal House," "Better Off Dead," "Caddy Shack," "Stripes," and just about anything by Steven Spielberg. Stats Bar for Capt BigginsListen to our interview with Capt Biggins of Tampa Bay, Florida. He learned about Geocaching from a TechTV interview with Jeremy Irish (October 30, 2000 according Geocaching.com's Press Archives). While the Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx is his current GPS, he started caching with the Garmin GPS 72. Cachemate on his PocketPC takes care of his paperless caching needs. His most memorable early geocache was "The Scavenger Hunt Cache" (GC480C) -- a locationless cache which gave him the chance to take a photo of a motorcycle officer with a GPSR and a Barbi doll. The most memorable cache was "Mission 9: Tunnel of Light" (GC1169), found during his trip to the Seattle area where he also visited the Groundspeak headquarters. Some day he hopes to cache in Glasgow, Scotland and Hawaii. His favorite hide is currently "Using Your Mind's Eye" (GC1G8YA) which is a visual puzzle that draws fun comments from the Finders. As for music, he enjoys Jimmy Buffett. As for the movies, he like Disney's "Pirates of the Carribean" series, but recently discovered a 1952 film titled "The Crimson Pirate."

Stats Bar for bumanfamListen to our interview with bumanfam of The Ice Cream Capital of the World (Northwest Iowa). They started caching with a Magellan eXplorist 210. Since then they've added more of the same units for the whole family and the Garmin iQue M5 for Dad. He's a GSAK fan using that to load the GPSRs. His introduction to Podcasts came from the Travel Bug they found which had a teaser for the "Podcacher Podcast." Were cost and time not an object, he'd love to cache the Banff National Park and Calgary, Alberta areas. As for their hides, his favorites are "We Wood Eaven Put A Cache Here (GC11FQ6)" and "GEOSCAMS (GC17917)." His best event memory comes from last year's "MOGA 2008 (GC167P0)" Mega Event with kid number 1. Bumanfam Mom is a fan of the "Harry Potter" movies. Stats Bar for emilierene
Stats Bar for thetattooedjew
Listen to our interview with Team Outrageous Soul (emilierene and thetattooedjew). Their joint name was inspired by a trip to a Rockefeller Center drug store and the Dr. Scholl's Outrageous Soles display. Scott's first find was "The Empire Strikes Back (GC4D7F)" virtual cache while visiting New York with Emily. Emily started her caching with a Magellan eXplorist 200, upgraded to the Magellan eXplorist 500, but now uses the Garmin Colorado 300. Scott has been using the Garmin GPSMap 60CSx since his start. Emily's most memorable caching trip was in Waco, Texas where the cache density gave her many finds (Scott recalls about 28 caches in only 2 hours of caching). Scott enjoyed caching in his birth state of Hawaii during their honeymoon. Emily wants to cache all 50 states, Scott wants to cache in Bosnia. Emily enjoyed hiding the "Welcome to the Cove (GC168RY)." Their first (and currently only) event hosted was the recent "WWFM IV - Altoona's Blaze Orange Salute (GC1GWG3)" which was a great experience (see the video on YouTube). They're looking forward season five of "Lost" starting in a few weeks. Scott also enjoys "Law & Order Criminal Intent" while his favorite musical group is "U2."

Stats Bar for Team PsychopuppyListen to our interview with Team Psychopuppy of California. The team of five (two humans and three canines) took their name from the eldest puppy (Belle). They started their caching explorations with a Handspring Visor PDA with a GPS card from Magellan. Their first DNF didn't deter them, and eventually they purchased their Garmin GPSMap 60CSx and still prefer using that to their new Garmin Oregon. They're also using the navigation system in their Toyota Prius and the iPhone 3G. They still use their Handspring Visor and CacheMate for their cache information in the field. The 60CSx receives its caches through MacCaching while the Oregon is drag-and-drop of the GPX files from Geocaching.com. They hosted the "Caching on your Mac" at GeoWoodstock VI. They made a trip to visit his parents though during GeoWoodstock V. They enjoy their local Northern California for its variety, and especially Lake Powell (where they had an encounter with a winged geomuggle). One of their favorite events is the "Sonoma County Cachers Re-Union Cache" which they host each year. They also created the SRLUP series of caches bringing Cachers to the many small parks of Santa Rosa, California. They enjoy watching movies on their Plasma TV (when not Geocaching), including "Blade Runner" and the Disney/Pixar movies. For music they enjoy "Depeche Mode," "Heart," "Kansas," and "U2."
Also mentioned in this episode was the "Winter Potluck & Cabin Fever (GC16JBK)" event and the "Cache-A-Maniacs Geocoins Through PayPal" post.

Stats Bar for pdanticListen to our interview with pdantic of Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Steve is known for his articles on the "The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)" titled "iPhone 101: Geocaching with an iPhone 3G" and "TUAW Review: Geocaching iPhone app." (He's also writing for "Gadling.") Earlier though he ran a website called "pdantic.com" (via Archive.org) about PDAs. His first GSPR (eTrex Summit) was acquired as a replacement for a cycle computer. Later he upgraded to a GPSMap 60 CS but now relies on nothing but his iPhone 3G. While he misses the accuracy of the 60CS he loves the convenience of the iPhone while on the road for business. Now he's drooling over the Oregon 400t. He's looking forward to the next generation location technology but fear hearing an increase in number of incidents resetting Podcacher's DWAB counter. One of his favor finds was "Travel Bug Cafe" (GCK21R) where he launched his "Go Rocky! Go Rocky Go!" travel bug. His favorite location for caching though was New York's Central Park where he ran into another couple from Sweden (Hemulen). He likes listening to "Steely Dan," and watching "Star Trek (TOS)," "Fringe," and anything from "Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K)." Enjoy this episode with a Cacher who hits the trail while on the road.

Stats Bar for the.james.gangListen to our interview with the.james.gang of Western Washington State. We spoke with mom of the five person family team who got their start in Geocaching through her parents and a multi-cache. Their caching started with just a Magellan Explorist 500 but added a Garmin eTrex Legend and use both with EasyGPS. Despite the GPSRs though, it doesn't prevent their getting lost following an FTF attempt (and now she remembers to mark her car). She's still looking forward to find the Mission 9: Tunnel of Light Project APE Cache and the ORIGINAL STASH TRIBUTE PLAQUE. They've enjoyed doing the Kitsap County Challenge and visiting Groundspeak. But don't miss the stories about their encounters with muggles and other Geocachers!

Stats Bar for ReefPilotListen to our interview with ReefPilot of Minnesota, but who geocaches all over North America. He's a Scuba diving enthusiast and commercial airline pilot. He's currently using the same Garmin GPSMap 76CSx that he started his caching. He's using LoadMyTracks on his Macintosh to load the Geocaching.com Pocket Queries to his GPS, then Mac CMConvert to prep the PQ for the Palm. He caches frequently in the Washington D.C. area which is also one of his favorite caching destinations. He's also a fan of the Pacific Northwest and California. Perhaps the most unique location was Quito, Ecuador where he place the "UIO Basilica - Venezuela y Carchi (GC1CVMW)" cache. He's still looking to cache Hawaii, and the other 25 states that he hasn't found a cache yet. Some favorite movies include "Airplane," Indiana Jones ("Raiders of the Lost Ark," "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom," "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," and "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull"), and "National Treasure." Stats Bar for CaptainmathListen to our interview with Captainmath of Pike County, PA. We ran into CaptainMath during the "Geocoinfest 2008 - Pittsburgh (GC17H2A)" and spoke with him about Geocaching in Education during Episode 79 of the "Geocaching Podcast." His first GPSR (Garmin GPSMap 60CS) was purchased mostly to assist in navigation, but he's now upgraded to the Garmin GPSMap 60CSx for Geocaching. He's looking toward the next upgrade and possibly one of the Garmin Oregons. He's a Macintosh User but runs Windows and GSAK for his Geocaching. Since his PDA died though, he's using his Apple iPod Touch and MacCaching to keep track of cache information. Some of his favorite Geocaching took place during his attempt to complete "The Pennsylvania All Counties Challenge (GC10YN8)." One of his favorite cache finds is the "Rocky River Cache (GC1903)" for its rich history and cool view. For a brief period this past summer, he was rivalling the find rate of CCCooperAgency and nearly burned himself out on Geocaching. As for event, the "Tri-State Treasures" events are a favorite, in part due to its location near the "Tri State 1942" benchmark which marks the meeting of New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. He's a fan on the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Penguins. "A Beautiful Mind" was probably his favorite movie of all time, but on television he enjoys watching "The Office," "American Gladiators," "Star Trek," and "Night Court."

Stats Bar for FluteFaceListen to our interview with FluteFace of Marysville WA. Shortly after recording her interview, we had the chance to meet up with this flute player at Geowoodstock VI. During her interview she talked about how she didn't really get into Geocaching until she got her own GPSR. She's recently received a Garmin Colorado as a Valentine's Day gift and enjoys cache both with or without her family. Just like Firefly03 though, Flutey is really into Geocoins. She's nearly out of her first geocoin and looking forward to making a second soon. Perhaps the best benefit of Geocaching though has been that she's learned that she can do more than she thought she could.
We also thanked Bluedepth for his help with the show notes. Our congratulation on his first year cacheaversary went to ReefPilot having hit caches in 24 states, 2 Canadian provinces, and 4 countries. We also received an e-mail from Jereme who was inspired by episode 60 of the Geocaching Podcast to attempt using Geocaching to work toward a healthier life. FrostG1anT enjoys puzzle caches, voluntary cache repair, and CITO. He has a preference for "Stale Caches" which have gone unfound for a month, finds them extra-compelling. SlatRat is another cacher that taught FrostG1anT to enjoy elegantly designed geocaches, such as The Death of Sherlock Holmes. One of FrostG1anT's favorite hides is Save the Cheerleader, Save the World. We also enjoyed a story of gbug66 and his private property cache -- The 466 Cache. When not actively engaged in Geocaching, FrostG1anT prefers to enjoy running and cultivating good relationships with land managers to further Geocaching in his area.
