GeoGearHeadsThe Bad Cop and DarrylW4 tackle a seeming complete random series of topics on the ninetieth edition of the GeoGearHeads. The show kicked off with feedback from both DudleyGrunt and Ed2Ed about c:geo and it's use of the Geocaching.com Friends feature. Then the Bad Cop shared news from PhoneBloks about a modular smartphone system they'd like to create. Of course the iPhone 5S release had to be mentioned and the M7 processor and 64-bit A7 were the topics of interest to location-based Gamers. The Bad Cop also upgraded his iPhone 5 to iOS 7 while DarrylW4 recommended (and has been) waiting a couple weeks for the App updates to catchup. Some articles of note they mentioned were; "How to stop iOS 7 from destroying your iPhone's battery life" (from TUAW), "iOS 7 Locks Stolen iPhones to Prevent Resale" (from TidBits), and "Apple details security fixes in iOS 7. And there's a ton of them!" (from iMore). DarrylW4 brought up the release of a new memory card format – CFast (see also the Engadget Article). Wet_Coaster also mentioned the Sumsung Rubgy as an option for Geocachers and DarrylW4 mentioned a few others recently shipped (including the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, Kyocera Torque, Sony Experia Z1) he found encouraging. A question from f1drivr on Ingress triggered some discussion on the changes in the game (see Engadget's "Google's mobile MMO Ingress gets badges for monitoring player progress") and how its important to connect with fellow players. He also asked about Garmin map updates and using GPSFileDepot maps. JerseyEric asked about using the official Geocaching.com App for marking waypoints as well as other options (most of which will be talked about in the future "Getting Good Coords" show). Wet_Coaster asked in the Live Q&A about a GPSR with an emergency phone function. While neither the Bad Cop or DarrylW4 knew of a device doing both functions they suggested the SpareOne, Spot Messanger, or DeLorme InReach depending on needs. Finally Superted asked about getting a GSM SIM for use in the U.S. DarrylW4 recommended using the AT&T network as they have better coverage overall than the other large GSM carrier in the U.S. – T-Mobile – but not necessary to use AT&T itself. Two MVNOs offered as options were GoPhone and StraightTalk.

GeoGearHeadsFor the eighty-ninth edition of the GeoGearHeads The Bad Cop and DarrylW4 discuss some of the tips and tricks posted to the entries in the "GeoGearHeads 2013 Traveler Race." We were excited to try out the new "Live Q&A" function for the first time during this recording with the assistance of f1drivr. The first of the traveler tips mentioned were from lafitefl's "Sea Cache Horsing Around" and "Cache Patrol" and a couple tips in their logs from gflyer. NoNameYet202 "GGH TB Race Technology Tag" was the next up along with bonus tip from EttaKrewe in its logs. 4freds's "QR-Code Travel Beetle" shared a tip seemingly learned from first-hand experience and a tip in the log from TheMoiety. globaltreckers mentioned GGH Beta.13 and the usage he learned about using NeonGeo (also check GGH056) on "email us plz if you grabbed thnx." Joe.small shared some tips on flashlights (check GGH066 for more on flashlights for Geocaching) on his "Shine a little light GGH 2013" traveler, which also picked up a tip from The Small Ball Crew in its logs. Minnesota Boy's travelers ("Goofy," "Rumpelstiltskin," and "US Flag History Geocoin") managed to collect the most tips on their logs including ones from gravitybear, cdnilpog, Jensentravels, and EvilRhino. Meanwhile debaere released a series of themed travelers into the race – "Top Gear(UK) - The Stig," "Top Gear(UK) - Jeremy Clarkson," "Top Gear(UK) - James May," "Top Gear(UK) - Richard Hammond" – each with its own tip. The "GeoGearHeads 2013 Evernote Racing Coin (II)," "GeoGearHeads 2013 QR Racing Coin (II)," and "GGH 2013 Race Traveling Tip Exchange" travelers from our own DarrylW4 received a little discussion again, but the add-on tip from scrapcat got more air time. Tips on those travelers from Poppa's Chick and peeknseekjr were also mentioned. "Doin' It Old School" by TeamOrville mentioned the "Log Them All" site. Finally for this week, Team Shiney's "Caching Friend" shared two more tips. Our thanks again to GXProxy.com for supplying many of the gifts for the participants!

GeoGearHeadsThe Bad Cop and DarrylW4 tackle a variety of subjects on the eighty-eighth edition of the GeoGearHeads, the fifteenth installment of the Randomize show. juris1c wrote in wanting an iOS app to merge Geocaching, Munzee, and WallaBee notifications. Then we heard from TheWinterTrio who was hoping we knew something more about Geocaching.com's "Your Friends" feature (in short, no). Then the news that Microsoft killed their tags and the smartwatches out of IFA (Qualcomm Toq and Samsung Galaxy Gear) wrapped up the show. The "GeoGearHeads 2013 Traveler Race" is over, and we mentioned the three leaders in that race. Next week we're going over those tips.
